Stop accepting donations on goal met but don’t close the form

I have donations forms on my site for an animal welfare non-profit that represent sponsorships of individual dogs. They are all rendered on a single page with the give_form shortcode. The goal for each dog is met when one donation for the fixed amount is made, and I want to stop accepting donations for the goal at that point.

However, I don’t want all of the form content to be displaced by just the error message after a dog is sponsored. I still want to show either the form body or at least render the featured image.

What would be the best way to accomplish this?

give_form shortcode renders goal met error text only
